By now, you should have assigned and graded several informal assessments. How have you been using the results of these assessments to improve how you teach and what students learn? What strategies has your CT suggested for providing students with guidance before they do the assignment to improve their performance? What about after the assignment?

After I have reviewed student assignments, I take a few minutes at the beginning of class to hand back the assignments and to discuss with the class any misconceptions that I noticed and commented on during grading. This allows me to try and clarify confusion or to try and explain a topic using a new and different approach.

Although my CT has not given me any suggestions for student performance, I have learned to take a few minutes at the end of class to address the directions for homework assignments. What I have discovered is that students respond better to verbal instructions than to directions written on an assignment. I believe that a large number of students do not read directions so they often make mistakes. By verbally addressing instructions in class, I can lower the number of students who do not properly follow directions.
